The German painter and sculptor Horst Antes became world famous with his Kopffüssler, figures that consist largely of head, arms and legs. In 1960 Antes painted these grotesque figures for the first time. In the years that followed, he would elaborate on this theme in all sorts of techniques and form variations: in paintings, watercolors, graphics and, from 1963 onwards, in monumental sculptures. As early as 1959, the artist won prestigious awards and fairs. At the age of 19 he became a teacher at the Karlsruhe Academy. His work in Germany is part of the collections of the Kunsthalle in Hamburg, the Museum Ludwig and the Nationalgalerie in Berlin.
