Rotterdam-born Jacob Akkersdijk painted refined and detailed everyday genre performances. His interiors and cityscapes with figures are known. He also appears to have a talent for portrait paintings; he meticulously immortalizes persons on canvas, whereby especially his rendering of textiles deserves praise. In the period between 1838-1861 he exhibited his work in Amsterdam and The Hague. In addition, he worked for ten years as a teacher at the Rotterdam Academy from 1852, where he had probably also learned artistry himself. The painter's work is in the collections of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and Museum Rotterdam.
