Jacob Plügger, born in 1795, was originally a graphic artist and wood engraver who developed into a painter under the guidance of Cornelis Kruseman. The attention and patience of the craftsman is clearly recognizable in his work. The painter's oeuvre mainly comprises genre scenes, harbours, winter landscapes and seascapes. Before that, he made several study trips along the Dutch and English coasts.
