After his death, his wife set up a small museum. In 1949 Godfried Bomans (in the Elsevier's Weekblad 29/1/1949) describes the Huis van Looy museum as follows: 'At the back of the garden of the house on the Kleine Houtweg are 3 rooms where Titia van Looy had hung his work. After her death in 1940, the house and its collection were transferred to Haarlem in her will, where they served as a museum until 1948. After that, Haarlem refuses the donation. A number of Haarlemmers set up the Huis van Looy Foundation to purchase works for a small exhibition at the auction of the estate (25 Jan. 1949). On 13 April 1949, the Van Looy House opened. In 1952, Friends of the House of Looy was founded to support the museum. In 1967 the house had to be sold. The collection will go to the Frans Hals Museum'.
