Painter of cityscapes, still lifes, figure pieces and portraits in an impressionistic style. Jan Korthals was educated at the Academie der Schone Kunsten in Antwerp and at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. He was also taught by M.H. Mackenzie. Jan Korthals lived and worked for a large part of his life in Amsterdam, where he was a member of the St. Lucas artists' society.
