Johannes de Bus, born in 1827, lived and worked his entire life in The Hague. Little is known about his painter friends and teachers. The oeuvre of the painter consists mainly of figures, genre scenes and (dune) landscapes. Presumably he regularly visited the dunes and the fishing village of Scheveningen. The Hague painter died at the age of 53.
