Exhibited: München, Duitsland, Haus der Kunst, 'Künstlerbrüder - von den Dürers zu den Duchamps', 18 okt. 2005-22 jan. 2006. Een van de weinig bekende schilderijen van de jonggestorven Johannes Koekkoek.
Johannes Koekkoek was the third son of the progenitor Johannes Hermanus Koekkoek. He was born in Middelburg and, like his father, specialized in painting ships on the widely available Zeeland waters. As an eighteen-year-old, he completely mastered the genre: he shows himself to be a master in depicting the rough sea, the cloud formations above which the sun breaks through, the wind and the rigging of the ships. Due to his early death, at the age of twenty, his oeuvre has remained very small and therefore rare.
