Born in Leiden in 1909, Joop Linschooten lived and worked in The Hague after 1934, where he was inspired by the post-war work of painters like Jan van Heel. He painted varied types of still lifes, often using a palette knife, which are notable for their colouration and sense of energy. He was a member of the city's art society, the Haagse Kunstkring.
