This painting was previously for sale.

Provenance: coll. Van Hulsen, Leeuwarden.

After a period of landscapes, figures and portraits, the Frisian painter and rag merchant Jopie Huisman started painting the objects that make up his trade in the 1970s. He is particularly fascinated by discarded toys, worn-out clothes and broken shoes because, as he himself says, they so clearly have their own story to tell. In a realistic style that he completely taught himself, he uses these objects to create intimate still lifes, which have the same emotional value for him as a portrait. Most of these paintings remain in the painter's possession and are exhibited in the Jopie Huisman Museum in Workum. Only in exceptional cases does this later work come to the market.
