Juho Rissanen, arguably Finland's most famous painter, was best known for his landscapes and genre paintings. From ca. 1910 to 1914 he lived in Paris, where he incorporated the influence of impressionism and luminism into a style all his own. Back in Helsinki he also received many commissions for monumental frescoes, including those in the National Theater of Helsinki (1928). Restless traveller, Rissanen lived in France again in the 1920s and 1930s, before finally moving to Florida in the United States in 1940.
