The oeuvre of the Rotterdam artist Martinus Korpershoek consists largely of impressionistic cityscapes and portraits. The painter lived most of his life in the Maas city, but in the last ten years in Amsterdam and the nearby towns of Muiden and Heemstede. This view of the Haarlemmersluis with the Ronde Lutherse Kerk had already been created in 1922. Korpershoek was also maker of a well-known copy of Rembrandt's 'Night Watch'.
