Omer van de Weyer was born in Leuven in 1910 and attended the Academie des Beaux-Arts in Brussels (1925-1932), where he would become a teacher from 1955 (until 1977). He made a name for himself as a realistic painter and draftsman of landscapes, flowers, portraits, nudes and Japanese-tinted subjects. He also designed mosaics and posters. Van de Weyer was strongly influenced by Japanese prints and, for example, dealt with the theme of the samurai in a series of expressive and brightly coloured works.
