Paul Citroen is best known for his portraits. But he also painted landscapes and cityscapes in different styles. He always gave a different form to what struck him, never falling into a routine. Citroen was born in Berlin in 1896 and studied at the avant-garde Bauhaus in Weimar, which had a decisive influence on his work. In 1927 he settled in Amsterdam.
