Paul Werner Söchtig, born in 1919, belongs to the German late Impressionist painters, but his style is comparable with the freshness and spontaneity of the first practitioners. He paints cityscapes of Düsseldorf, still lifes and interiors with figures and nudes in warm, cozy colors. Quickly capturing his first impressions is important to him, especially in his landscapes; the meadows and tree groups of the Lower Rhine are among his favorite motifs.
