The Hague painter Petrus Paulus Schiedges developed after his studies at the Hague Academy of Arts as a painter of sea and river views with ships. Especially in his turbulent, romantic seas the influence of the celebrated marine painter Louis Meijer, from whom he received advice in the 1940s, can be seen. Schiedges made an accurate study of the different types of ships that in his time sailed the Dutch waters, so that he was able to show them in the smallest detail.
