Pier van Iersel learned the trade from Dio Rovers and Gerrit de Morée, two artists who, along with Jan Strube, formed the basis of the Bredasche Kunstkring, which would eventually become the St. Joost Art Academy. Van Iersel, who was mainly involved in the provincial North-Brabant art life, made paintings and monumental wall paintings and was also a draftsman and illustrator. In 1948 van Iersel took part in the summer exhibition of Jeroen Bosch in Concordia, Breda. A reviewer of De Stem was positive about his work, he described the work as skillful and artistic and touched the viewer without tiring him.
