In 1933 Piet Stenneberg opened an art dealership in Alkmaar where he presented well-known painters from the Bergen school, such as Colnot, Filarski, Gestel and Charley Toorop. However, this venture proved unsuccessful and Stenneberg decided to become a painter himself. He was a very versatile artist who worked in the most diverse styles and used various materials. The act of painting was the most important for him. His restless character is reflected in ferocious, twisting lines and spinning masses. From 1950, Stenneberg gets some fame when he participates in exhibitions in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
