Sjoerd Visser, self-taught, lived and worked in Amsterdam for most of his life. His colourful oeuvre mainly consists of figures, landscapes, animals and cityscapes, for which he drew inspiration in and around his hometown. In addition to being a painter, he was also a gifted etcher, draftsman and sculpto. Visser was a member of the Amsterdam artists' association Stuwing.
