Tinus van Doorn's work sometimes resembles that of Herman Kruyder, but is above all highly personal. Using nature as an important source of inspiration, he depicts his amazement at the world around him. Initially, his palette is colourful. In the mid-1930s he painted more or less surrealistic scenes with sea creatures and monsters, skulls, animal skeletons and other objects, glowing from the dark.
