Victor Demanet was a natural. He received his training at the Academy of Namur and then discovered in Brussels the work of the painter and sculptor Constantin Meunier, who glorified human labor in his powerful, realistic work. Demanet's oeuvre includes medallions, figures and portraits of kings and heroes and compositions of working people. These testify to a great social commitment and show influences from Meunier and Rodin.
