The romantic painter Willem Lodewijk Andrea lived and worked mainly in The Hague. As with many of his contemporaries in The Hague, his oeuvre consists of atmospheric summer and winter landscapes, ice scenes with skaters and marines. Occasionally the influence of Andreas Schelfhout can be noticed in his work in terms of composition and elaboration. However, it is not known if he was one of his students. Andrea also painted cityscapes including Leiden, Scheveningen and Noordwijk.
