Still life with roses has been painted so lightly and delicately that it seems to 'evaporate'. Kelder painted this work in the 'hazy' style that he developed from 1930 onwards. Before that, he lived in Bergen for three years, where he worked in the expressionist touch, typical of the Bergen School. The still life depicted here appears as if it was inspired by Symbolism. The vase with roses blends in with vague shapes and soft colors.
