The Dordrecht painter Anthonie Pieter Schotel painted water and ships, but also cityscapes and still lifes. In this Amsterdam cityscape he paints the Frederiksplein, where in 1951 an exhibition of plaster replicas of famous statues was held. A few years later, the head office of the Dutch Central Bank would be built on this spot.
