Adrianus Eversen was the most gifted pupil of the townscape painter Cornelis Springer. From his master he took over the build-up of composition, treatment of detail and warm colour palette. However, he was much freer in his choice of subject matter. While Springer mainly painted ‘portraits’ of existing buildings or parts of a town, Eversen usually arranged his villages and narrow streets in order to create a charming townscape.
