Albert Loots, son of the painter Frans Loots, lived with a few interruptions almost all his life in Haarlem. He received painting lessons from his father, then specialized in making paintings and pastel drawings of landscapes and still lifes. Loots also made woodcuts and designed book bindings, for example for Jan Eekhout's book, 'Boer zonder God'. The painter was a member of De Onafhankelijken in Amsterdam and De Groep Haarlem 69 in Haarlem.
