Daan Mühlhaus

Moored yachts in the harbour of the KDRZV Dordrecht
oil on canvas 50.0 x 60.2 cm, signed l.r.

This painting was previously for sale.

Provenance: Kunsthandel Gebroeders Koch, Rotterdam.

After various jobs, Daan Mühlhaus devoted himself entirely to painting from 1930 onwards. Although he initially took paintings in the Dordrechts Museum as an example, he soon developed into a pure impressionist. A.P. Schotel, Roland Larij and Cor Noltee were important artistic friends for him. Especially with Noltee, he often painted outside and made small canvases to be able to remember the things he wanted to work out at home. Mühlhaus painted in a naturalistic style, capturing his subjects in strokes and colour nuances. Together with a few others, he belonged to the group referred to as the 'Dordtse Impressionisten'.
