Georg Rueter was educated at the Amsterdam Rijksacademie (National Academy) under the tutelage of August Allebé. He excelled in drawing and painting portraits and flower still-lifes, and at the beginning of this century was counted among the leading Dutch artists such as Breitner, Gestel, Maks and Sluijters. Rueter also worked as a glass painter, famous for his windows in the Delft Nieuwe Kerk church and St. Peter’s church in Leiden. He also developed ex-libris labels, postage stamps and book covers.
