The Amsterdam painter-graphic artist Georg Ruijter was trained as a drawing teacher from 1928 and from 1933 to 1937 as a painter at the Rijksacademy in his hometown. After completing his education, the artist lived for 5 years in Haarlem and the Frisian town of Sloten. He then returned to Amsterdam. He painted landscapes, still lifes and portraits. His style was initially figurative and occasionally geometrically abstract, after 1958 concrete. Ruijter was a member of the Independents and of the St. Lucas artists' association.
