Herman Brood

Inderdaad, nee (Indeed, no)
oil and spray paint on canvas 50.1 x 60.1 cm, signed l.c. and dated 1992

Provenance: door de vorige eigenaar rechtstreeks van de kunstenaar gekocht in diens atelier aan de Spuistraat in Amsterdam ca. 1992/1993.

Herman Brood, singer, pianist, poet, performer, artist and 'enfant terrible' of the Amsterdam art scene, was educated at the academy in Arnhem (1964). After wild years as a musician in various rock bands, including his own 'Herman Brood & His Wild Romance', he became active as a painter in the 1980s. He usually worked in large format and in bright colours with black outlines or texts. He often took figures as the main motif and drew on the many impressions and experiences he collected in his turbulent life.
