Little is known about the Austro-Hungarian painter Ignaz Kaufmann. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart in the early 20th century and subsequently established his name with impressionistic cityscapes. From 1927 he was a member of the progressive Stuttgarter Künstlerbund. As a Jewish artist he was banned from painting in 1933. He then emigrated to London (1939) where he probably lived until his death.
