Robert Panitzsch spent his childhood in Fürstenberg/Havel in the Duchy of Mecklenburg, near the station where the Berlin North Railway passed. He spent hours sketching in the station waiting room. His drawings were noticed by Kaiser Wilhelm's cavalry captain who secured Panitzsch a place at the Imperial Academy of Art in Berlin. After his studies, he left for safe and picturesque Denmark with his Danish wife and children. There he found his new home in Copenhagen, where he discovered his sources of inspiration: interior pieces in which he depicted women reading, embroidering or looking out the window, often seen from the back. But he also went outside, painting scenes in the park, alleys and moored ships in watery Copenhagen. His talent was reflected not only in large-format paintings, but also in finely detailed illustrations for postcards. In 1936 Panitzsch became a Danish citizen.
