Literature: vgl.: Maarten van der Schaft, 'Willy Fleur (1888-1967): een kleurrijk Haags schilder met een Oosters hart', Den Haag 2004, afb. pag. 30.

Johan Willem, or Willy, Fleur received a thorough training at the academies of Rotterdam and The Hague. He painted in a colorful, smooth-impressionistic style a wide range of subjects: landscapes, cityscapes, beachscapes, animals, flowers and portraits. Both in the choice of his subjects and in his view, he shows himself a very original painter. In this way he almost always combines his floral still lifes with Asian objects such as porcelain, dolls and silk fabrics. For his landscapes he found inspiration in the Westland of Holland.
