Ype Wenning was born in Leeuwarden and then lived and worked in various cities, including The Hague for a longer period of time. He painted town and village views, figures and Frisian and South Holland landscapes. He excelled especially in this last genre. His work is characterized by a broad, impressionistic touch and careful, muted colours.
