Adrianus Eversen was regarded as the most gifted pupil of the famous townscape painter Cornelis Springer. From his master he took over the compositional structure, the elaboration of details and the warm colour palette. However, he was much freer in his choice of subjects. While Springer mainly painted ‘portraits’ of existing buildings or parts of a town, Eversen usually arranged his villages and narrow streets in order to create a charming cityscape.
