Henri van Daalhoff is mainly known for his dreamlike city and village views, orchards and farmsteads. He did not work from nature, but sought to express his feelings and depict an inner, invisible world. ‘Nature is sometimes the indirect reason, but what I paint are fantasies, which occur to me sometimes years after I came across something similar’, he told his biographer A. Obreen in 1915. For this, he used blurred, rarely sharply defined forms and orangey brown, green and yellow colours. Occasionally he also adopted the pointillist technique.
