In a figurative, often (naive) realistic style, the Hague artist Karel Wiggers painted varied subjects such as portraits, still lifes, landscapes, figure pieces and peasant interiors. He also made an abstract composition once in a while. Wiggers was educated at the Royal Academy in The Hague, with Sierk Schröder (1903-2002) as a teacher, and at the academy in Munich, where Constantin Gerhardinger (1888-1970) was one of his teachers. The artist lived and worked most of his life in his native city of The Hague, but also spent some time abroad, including in Munich and Paris. He was a member of the artists' societies St.-Lucas in Amsterdam and the Haagse Kunstkring and Pulchri Studio in The Hague.
